One wedding morning at a time

Skin first,
then everything else.

Open Room is a bridal makeup studio that holds a single booking a day. Your morning is prepped, timed and finished without a queue behind it — from the first cleanse to the last touch-up pass before you leave for the ceremony.

The open room

A quiet room, a long table,
and only your morning in it.

Most bridal mornings go wrong in the margins — a chair that arrives late, a bridesmaid squeezed into eleven minutes, a touch-up kit nobody can find at four in the afternoon. Open Room removes the squeeze by booking one wedding a day. There is no second appointment waiting, so the clock belongs to you.

The work itself is skin-led. We build from prep rather than pigment: cleanse, treat, let it settle, then colour in thin passes that hold up under a photographer's flash and a long warm afternoon. If you want visible, graphic makeup you will get it done properly — but it will sit on skin that has been looked after first.

Everything is discussed and tested at the trial, written down, and repeated on the day. You should not be making decisions about your eyeliner at eight in the morning.

We would rather finish early and sit with you than run ten minutes behind for four hours.

The wedding morning

A timed plan, so your
photographer isn't guessing.

This is the standard shape of a bride-plus-party morning for a two o'clock ceremony. Your own running order is built backwards from the time you need to be in the car, then sent to you and your photographer a week before the date.

Earlier ceremonies move everything forward rather than compressing it. If the maths doesn't work, we will say so when you enquire instead of on the day.

  1. Setup and skin check

Chair, lighting and kit laid out. A quick look at how your skin is behaving today — hydration, any reaction, anything that changes the base.

  2. Party begins, in leaving order

Whoever needs to be dressed first goes first. Each face gets a full slot, not a gap between other people's slots.

  3. Bride's prep

Cleanse, treat, mask if the skin wants it, then a settling pause. This pause is in the schedule on purpose and is not the place to catch up time.

  4. Base, eyes, lashes

Built in thin passes against the trial notes, checked in daylight and under the photographer's test flash if they are already on site.

  5. Dress, then final pass

Makeup is finished after you are in the dress, so nothing is disturbed by a zip or a veil. Lip and powder are set last.

  6. Kit handover and departure

Touch-up kit handed to whoever is carrying your things, with two minutes on how to use it. We stay until you leave.

Trial & prep notes

What actually changes the result.

Field notes from the studio. None of this requires buying anything expensive — it mostly requires timing.

01

Book the trial eight to ten weeks out

Far enough ahead that there is room for a second look if you change your mind, close enough that your skin and hair colour are roughly what they will be on the day.

Come with clean skin and bring the earrings, the veil and a photo of the neckline. Makeup is designed against a neckline more than people expect.

02

Stop starting new skincare at six weeks

Acids, retinoids and new actives need time to settle. Introducing them inside six weeks is the most common cause of a base that will not sit evenly.

Facials and anything with extractions want to be at least three weeks clear of the date. Hydration, on the other hand, can be increased right up to the morning.

03

Photography eats about a third of your makeup

Flash flattens definition and daylight softens edges, so a look that seems right in a bathroom mirror often photographs as nothing at all.

We build slightly beyond what you would wear to dinner, then check it on camera at the trial so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.

Finish range

Three directions we work in.

  • Bride with a soft neutral makeup finish and loosely pinned hair, photographed outdoors
Clear skin, quiet eyeMinimal shadow, defined lash line, a lip close to your own colour. The most photographed of the three.
  • Makeup brushes and cosmetic products arranged on a pale surface
Built to last the dayLongwear base, cream-over-powder layering and a kit matched to your shades for the evening.
  • Close detail of a glowing complexion with warm highlight across the cheekbone
Warm and graphicDeeper lid, stronger lip, sculpted cheek. Suited to evening ceremonies and strong colour palettes.

Questions

Asked often enough to write down.

How far will you travel for a wedding morning?

Anywhere inside a two-hour drive of the studio is quoted as a normal on-location booking. Beyond that we can still come, but the morning usually needs an overnight stay nearby so the schedule doesn't depend on traffic. Either way, travel is costed with the date rather than added afterwards.

How many people can you get ready in one morning?

Six faces including the bride is the comfortable ceiling. Above four, a second artist joins so nobody is finished three hours before they leave. If your party is larger than six, we will tell you honestly that it needs a different setup rather than squeezing it.

Is the trial really necessary?

Yes, and it is included in every bride booking. The trial is where we test how your skin holds product, check the look on camera, and write down the exact sequence used on the day. Without it, the wedding morning becomes an experiment with a deadline.

Will it last through a long day and a warm room?

It is built to. Base and cheek go on in layers that set into each other, lips are blotted and rebuilt, and lashes are applied with a waterproof adhesive. You will still want to blot once mid-afternoon — that is what the touch-up kit is for, and we show someone in your party how to use it.

I have sensitive or reactive skin. Can you work with it?

Often, yes. Tell us at the enquiry stage what reacts and what you already use, and we will patch-test the base and adhesive at the trial rather than on the day. For rosacea, eczema or active breakouts we adjust the prep stage and choose different textures — the finish changes slightly, but it holds.

How is a date held, and what happens if plans move?

Send your date through the form and we will confirm whether the morning is free before anything else. A date is held once the trial is booked. If your wedding moves, tell us as early as you can and we will transfer the booking to the new date whenever that date is still open.

Enquire about a date

Tell us the date first.
Everything else follows.

One booking a day means availability is the first question, not the last. Send the date and we will reply with whether the morning is open, a realistic running order, and what the booking would include.

What you get back
Availability for your date, a draft timing plan and a quote including travel.

Reply to the same thread with changes rather than sending a second form.

Enquiries are answered in the order they arrive, usually within two studio days. Sending this does not hold the date — we will confirm availability first.
